THE DEVON MUSTER ROLL  OF 1569 Edited by T. L. Stoate and A. J. Howard (Ref 038) On   March   26   th   1569   ,   due   to   the   threat   of   Spanish   forces,   the   Privy   Council   issued   a   directive   to the   counties   to   hold   a   general   muster   of   all   men   over   16.   Certificates   of   the   muster,   with   the names   of   the   men   and   their   equipment,   were   to   be   returned   by   July   1st   though   this   was   later extended to August 12th . HISTORICAL RECORDS OF THE 1st DEVON MILITIA 4th Battalion Devon Regiment (Ref 084) by Colonel H. Walrond This   book   published   in   1897   traces   the   history   of   the   regiment   from   its   earliest   origins   to   1896. Its   400+   pages   are   divided   into   chronological   sections   that   give   a   great   deal   of   information   as   to the   location   of   the   company   and   the   day   to   day   activities.   There   are   a   number   of   illustrations and   the   appendix   gives   lists   of   various   ranks   and   officers.If   you   had   an   ancestor   in   the   Devon Regiment,   or   if   you   are   interested   in   the   military   history   of   the   area,   this   book   is   invaluable   in   not only giving you facts but in bringing the Militia to life. £5.00 including UK Postage       £6.50 including Overseas Postage
THE MARRIAGE LICENCES OF THE DIOCESE OF EXETER FROM THE BISHOPS REGISTERS (Ref 138) By Lieutenant-Colonel J. L. Vivian Part 3 This   book   covers   all   of   those   parishes   in   the   Dioceses   of   Exeter,   which   is   most   of   Devon.   There are   thousands   of   entries   starting   in   1523   and   continuing   to1631.      It   is   arranged   in   chronological order   and   gives   the   names   of   the   bride   and   groom   and   their   adobe.      It   is   the   ideal   tool   to   locate   the that   missing   marriage,   particularly   in   those   parishes   that   have   not   surviving   parish   registers   or   are particularly   difficult   to   read.   Sadly   there   is   no   index   but   is   searchable   although   I   would   also recommend a thorough search by eye in addition to a computer search. £5.00 including UK Postage       £6.50 including Overseas Postage
