Volume   one   deals   with   the   Civil   History   of   the   city.   Volume two   with   the   Ecclesiastical   History   and   Volume   three   with Civil and Modern (to 1882) History.    Each   volume   is   packed   with   historical   information   relating to all aspects of this proud city's past. TRANSCRIPTION OF POOR BOOK OF THE TITHINGS OF WESTBURY-ON-TRYM, STOKE BISHOP AND SHIREHAMPTON 1656 TO 1698 (Ref: 101) By H. J. Wilkins This    book    deals    with    an    unsettled    period    of    English History,   for   it   runs   from   1656   to   1698   which   is   a   period that   embraces   part   of   the   Protectorate   (1653   to   1659), the   restored   Commonwealth   (1659),   the   reign   of   Charles II   (1660   to   1685)   the   reign   of   James   II   (1685   to   1688)   and William and Mary to 1689. As   with   all   “Poor   Books”   it   deals   with   the   income   and disbursement   to   the   poor.   There   are   many   hundreds   of people   listed   either   as   paying   the   poor   rate   or   receiving payments   and   will   be   of   great   interest   to   those   studying the   area   or   with   ancestors   in   these   parishes.   There   is   no index but it is fully searchable £5.00 Including UK P&P

Beaven With   over   four   hundred   pages   this   book   is   probably   the most    complete    list    of    Mayors,    Sheriffs,    Aldermen    and Common    Councillors,    the    Society    of    Merchant    Venturers and     some     of     the     more     important     offices     under     the Corporation,   such   as   librarians,   postmasters,   physicians   at the   Bristol   Royal   Infirmary   plus   many   other   offices,   some dating    back    to    the    sixteenth    century.    Many    have    basic biographical   notes   such   as   various   posts   held   and   dates   of death.   It   contains   many   thousands   of   names   and   is   fully searchable.
