ENMORE The History of a Somerset Parish by Paul Mansfield The definitive history of this small Somerset village that lies just a few miles from Bridgwater. THE MYNSTER ON THE ILE or The Story of the Ancient Parish of Ilminster, the one Royal Peculiar in the County of Somerset by James Street M.A. Published in 1904 this is probably the most complete history of  Ilminster ever written which certainly has not been bettered since this  date. In his preface the author “professes neither antiquarian learning  nor literary finish: but he thinks he can distinguish that which interests  ordinary folk; and claims to have discovered a wealth of interesting  matter, connected with the history of the town of which he has been  Vicar”.  Starting with the coming of the Normans it continues to the late  nineteenth century, with the Churchwardens Accounts Henry VIII -  Edward VI printed in full, sections on the Black Death, Nonconformity,  Monmouth and many others, makes this rare book on CD, with over  four hundred pages, invaluable for historians and genealogists alike.  Price £7.50 including U.K. P & P

THE HISTORY OF TAUNTON by Joshua Toulmin and James Savage First published in the early 1790's and updated to republished in 1822 this is still probably one of the most useful and important works written about the county town of Somerset. The book contains in great detail all of the main historical events that have taken place or connected to Taunton . There are also transcripts of the monumental transcriptions at St Mary's church, St. James and Paul's Meeting house.
